Passport Application Coming to Mobile Phones

08-10-2013

The Ministry of External Affairs has finally woken to the plight of Indians and is looking for means of simplifying the process of Passport application. Using the app, applicants can apply for their passport online and generate the ARN number. However, once the process is complete, the applicants will have to visit a passport office to submit their documents and for verification process. But this eliminates the need to visit the office each time before generating an ARN number. The new upgraded application is expected to be launched in a couple of months. The Ministry has outsourced the development of the app. While online passport application service is extremely popular, it is often tedious and fails to register at times owing to network issues. Also, with multiple users logged in at the same time, on slower networks, the website fails to open or crashes. With the new app, users are hopeful of these issues being resolved. Also, with the new app, applying for a passport from anywhere will get convenient and users need not have access to a PC. The present mPassport Seva app doesn’t let users apply for a new passport. All users can do using the app is check the status of their application, calculate fees, check out on the nearest passport centres, take a look at list of police stations in the vicinity and other basic information related to passport filing. With the new upgraded app, not only can users file for passports but even pay the fees online.
